Getting set up
How does Buzz Me Up work?
Your building's intercom dials a phone number when a visitor buzzes your unit. Buzz Me Up gives you a virtual number, local to your city, that you give to your building in place of that number. When someone buzzes, the call arrives in the app — so you can answer and let them in from anywhere, on any device you're signed in on.
How do I set up a buzzer?
Setup takes about two minutes and has four steps:
- Enter your address. We use it to generate a virtual number in your city.
- Give that new number to your landlord, property manager or strata manager and ask them to program it into the building system, in place of the number you have there now. The app gives you a message you can copy and send.
- Set your keypad key — the digit you'd normally press on your phone to let someone in.
- Buzz your own unit to test it. Setup completes on the first buzz that reaches the app.
How long does it take before my buzzer works?
That depends on your building, not on us. The virtual number is ready immediately, but it does nothing until someone with access to the intercom system programs it in. For most people the wait is however long their property manager takes to action the request.
When something isn't working
I'm not receiving buzzes
Work through these in order — the first two cover most cases:
- Confirm the building programmed your number. Until they do, the intercom is still dialing your old number. This is the most common cause by a wide margin.
- Check notifications are enabled for Buzz Me Up in your phone's system settings.
- Check the buzzer isn't paused or muted in the app, under that buzzer's settings.
- Check your quiet hours haven't silenced the buzz.
The door doesn't open when I press unlock
Your keypad key is probably wrong. It's the digit your building's system expects in order to release the door — usually 6 or 9, and it's in the instructions your building manager, strata manager or landlord gave you when you moved in. You can change it in the app under your buzzer's settings, then buzz yourself again to confirm it works.
Someone else answered the buzz
That's expected if more than one person has access to the buzzer. A buzz rings everyone with access, and the first person to answer takes the call — the app tells the others who picked up.
Your account
Can I share a buzzer with roommates or family?
Yes. Open the buzzer, go to Buzzer access and invite them by email. They'll need their own Buzz Me Up account, and once they accept they'll ring on buzzes too. You can remove access at any time from the same screen.
How do I change my phone number or personal details?
In the app, go to Account → your profile. Changing your phone number sends a verification code to the new number. Note this is separate from your buzzer's virtual number — changing your personal number does not require the building to reprogram anything.
How do I cancel my subscription?
Delete your buzzers. Removing your last buzzer ends the subscription. Because purchases are handled by the App Store and Google Play, you can also manage or cancel the subscription directly in your Apple or Google account settings.
How do I delete my account?
In the app, go to Account and choose Delete account. This is permanent — your buzzers, buzz history and personal details are erased, not archived, and we can't restore them afterwards. If you only want to stop buzzes temporarily, pause the buzzer instead.
